Library Resources
Welcome to the library
|
The library provides a welcoming, friendly, attractive and supportive environment with a collection of resources to meet the needs of the Academy community including career library collection. Students enjoy spending time in the library to read, exchange books, and do homework or to use the computing facilities. It provides quality resources to support both reading for pleasure and the Academy curriculum.
All students in years 7, 8 and 9 are enrolled in Accelerated Reader a reading program that encourages reading for leisure. This involves taking quizzes online about the book they have read. There are regular Accelerated Reader library lessons as part of their English timetable.
Library Events and Activities
Throughout the year the library organises special events and activities to celebrate or commemorate occasions such as Literacy Week, World Book Day, Roald Dahl Day, National Poetry Day, Author visit and visit to the local public library. We also have lunch time clubs such as AR Club, Book Club, Games Club, and Movie Club and before and after school Homework Club.
Borrowing
Students are allowed to borrow up to 2 items at a time and these can be fiction or non-fiction. Most books are available for a 3-week loan period. Items can be renewed if you have not yet finished with them and need to have them for a longer period. We do not charge fines for overdue items, however a bill for the replacement cost of very overdue or damaged items may be sent home at the end of term if loans are still outstanding. If you have any query please contact the librarian.
